Only in combination with the Feed Conveyor for automated recording of serial numbers of SSD’s and HDD’s

  • Operator puts 15 HDD´s on the feed conveyor and starts the shredding process
  • Conveyor automatically moves one HDD below the camera / scanner unit
  • Unit takes a photo and saves it into a folder on customer´s laptop computer
  • Scanner simultaneously scans the HDD´s barcodes and saves them in a txt-file on customer´s laptop computer
  • Conveyor then moves the HDD further and finally drops it directly into the shredder
  • After taking the picture and scan of the barcodes and on the way into the shredder there is no access to the HDD possible any more

3.5” HDD on the conveyor. HDD must be put onto the conveyor with the barcode sticker on the upper side. Orientation of the HDD does not matter. Photo of the HDD is saved in a folder of customer´s laptop computer. Thus nonbarcode-based information can be retrieved and saved if necessary. Also, if barcode reading should not work because of damage to the barcode, plain text serial-no. can be read from the photo. Read barcodes are saved in a txt-file on customer´s computer. From there they can be copied and pasted into shredding record documents.

Interchangeable Screens - Meeting Adapting Security Requirements

Interchangeable Screens - Meeting Adapting Security Requirements

With JBF's interchangeable sizing screens, the final particle size can be adapted quickly to suit different security requirements. Each machine has its own compatible set of screens, which can be swapped within that specific machine. Swap to a finer or coarser screen to match the job, without changing the cutting unit. Smaller screen holes typically deliver higher security output (at reduced throughput), while larger holes increase throughput for less stringent requirements.

The JBF HD 35/50 Flash is designed to destroy nearly all commonly used HDDs and Flash media. Without a screen it delivers basic industrial destruction, then screens can reduce output to as low as 3mm (or 2.5mm in the flash cutting unit) for paramount security requirements.

The sizing screen defines the maximum particle size leaving the disintegrator: material is cut repeatedly until it can pass through the screen holes. This gives you a practical way to match output to different standards and security targets without changing machines. Because shred shape varies, hole diameter is a practical guide rather than an exact guarantee of final chip dimensions.

For high-security applications, the 3 mm screen produces particles aligned with DIN 66399 levels O5, T6, H6, and E5. To help reduce wear in demanding use, the screens are made from wear-resistant HARDOX material.

Simple Operation with Built-In Safety

Simple Operation with Built-In Safety

Operation is straightforward as all operation buttons, indicator lights, plus emergency-switch and main on / off switch are combined in one central console. All electrical items like contactors, overload protection switches, emergency-stop-relay, main switch, transformers and terminals are clearly arranged in the central control cabinet. All functions are controlled fully automatically by a specially programmed Eaton easy PLC.

Designed with safety in mind, the cutter unit has a feed lever, keeping operation tidy and controlled. To process larger media or multiple HDDs in parallel when needed, lift the hopper top cover. For safety, a limit switch cuts off the shredder while the top cover is open, and also while the control cabinet door is open to add another safety layer. The result is high-capability destruction with an operator-friendly workflow.

Optional Extras: Automated Proof of Destruction: Photo & Barcode Logging

Optional Extras: Automated Proof of Destruction: Photo & Barcode Logging

Load up to 15 HDDs onto the feed conveyor and start the process for a simple, repeatable chain-of-custody workflow. The conveyor automatically positions each drive under a camera/scanner unit, where a photo is captured and saved directly to a folder on the connected laptop. At the same time, the HDD barcode is scanned and saved into a .txt file on the same laptop, making it easy to paste the data into shredding record documents. This photo record is useful even when barcode reading fails, because the serial number or other identifying details can often be read from the image. Once the drive has been photographed and scanned, there is no access to the HDD: the HDD continues along the conveyor and drops directly into the shredder, supporting a secure, tamper-resistant process.

Understanding Security Levels (DIN 66399 ISO/IEC 21964)

Understanding Security Levels (DIN 66399 ISO/IEC 21964)

What are the Security Levels for data destruction?

The destruction of media is classified into 6 categories, each available in 7 different security levels. The higher the security required, the higher the number. For example, Level 1 is the lowest security level, meaning that the data on it can be reproduced without special tools or skills but not without a certain amount of time expenditure. This is recommended e.g. for memory media containing general data which needs to be rendered illegible. Whereas Level 7 is the highest security level, meaning data is impossible to reproduce given the current level of science and technology. If maximum security standards are required, this level is recommended for memory media containing data which needs to be kept top secret.

Six Media Categories

  • P - Paper Based Products
  • F - Film Based Products including Micro-film, Microfiche, and Slides etc.
  • O - Optical Media including CD's, DVD's and Blu-ray Disks etc.
  • T - Magnetic Data Media like Floppy Discs, ID Cards, Magnetic Tapes, and Cassettes etc.
  • H - Hard Drives from Computers, Laptops, and External Devices
  • E - Electronic Data Media like Memory Sticks, Cards with a Magnetic Chip, Solid State Drives (SSDs) and Mobile Phones

Why Shredding Flash & SSD Media Matters

Why Shredding Flash & SSD Media Matters

Flash and SSD media may be small, but they can contain an enormous amount of private, business, or confidential information. When devices are retired, returned from lease, resold, or fail, that data still needs to be securely eliminated to meet security policies and regulatory expectations. While certified overwriting can work on functioning devices, it's often time-consuming at scale - and for damaged or non-operational media it may not be possible at all. Physical shredding removes the risk of data recovery by destroying the storage chips and components directly. It's also important to note that Flash-based media cannot be degaussed like magnetic drives, so "erase by degaussing" isn't an option. For organisations that need a clear, dependable end-of-life process, shredding is the most reliable route to true data destruction.
